baby clothes.

lylah's newborn clothes, grayson's closet

because lylah's nook has minimal storage, her clothes are sort of spread around the house in pockets of available space. above is her newborn (read: teensy) clothing collection, which, based on today's doctor's appointment, she may or may not be able to wear for longer than 10 minutes. (doctor estimates she weighs around 8.5 pounds right now!) either way, they are super sweet and tiny.

then her 0-3 month and 3 month clothes are in one of the drawers in ellie's dresser. ellie has a ton of closet space plus her dresser, and her clothes don't use anywhere near all of the space. also, the girls will eventually share a room so it made sense to store some of lylah's clothes in that dresser.

a few of lylah's things were her sister's, but they have birthdays in opposite seasons so there's not much. the rest has been carefully curated over the past few months from resale shops, consignment sales, thrift stores and various other shopping stops. she also has several things that were gifts from family and friends.

there's a second drawer in ellie's dresser that holds summery clothes in 3-6 months, which we may or may not get to before it gets cooler, depending on how big a girl she is. the far right pile are cooler weather items in larger sizes.

she doesn't have nearly the quantity of clothing that ellie (or even grayson) had, but i kind of like it that way. i adore all of it, and it's much less overwhelming now and come laundry time.

yay for playing in sweet baby girl clothes!

weekly finds :: 3/2/11.

it has now become a pretty regular habit for me to stop by salvation army and goodwill once a week after school for a quick look at the kids clothes, probably because they are needing more warm weather clothes lately. oh, and i have a new baby coming. ::grin!:: rarely, i venture into other sections. it's easy for me to scour the kids clothes in my 15-20 minutes, but starting in on other departments is too time-consuming for my regular trips most of the time. though it's sometimes only a couple of pieces, i hardly ever leave empty-handed. it's a great way to boost the closets of little ones who to need new clothes seasonally.

first up, shorts for gray.

from one of my if-i-had-lots-of-money-i'd-shop-here stores, mini boden. score!

next, a sweet baby gap dress for baby 3.

it's seriously so light and airy. perfect for texas summers.

it's 6-12 months, not perfect for the june bug's seasons, but i'm hoping it'll still fit next spring. i'm a sucker for eyelet.

also 6-12 months, this red and white striped gymboree top will be great for cooler weather. i love the little bow at the neckline.

this dream combination of mustard/chocolate color scheme, seersucker fabric AND eyelet trim does not have a tag. so i'm assuming it's handmade. i'll just keep trying it on her until it fits.

see? love!

quadruple bonus: it's open in the back! what could be better than chubby baby back rolls and fluffy cloth diaper butt showing? nada.

though i didn't spend much time in housewares, a quick glance had me adding this glass daisy canister to my loot. it's bright and cheery, and i intend to add it to the top of june bug's shelf.

i also scored this mary poppins novel from the 60s with cover art to die for.

i love the navy/yellow combination...

...and the illustrations of the banks family. this will go in baby 3's room, too.

and finally, the price round up.
not a bad haul for $7.31, huh?

i heart thrifting!

p.s. i know this trip doesn't include anything for ellie, but believe me, i find plenty for her on most of my trips. next time, i'll show you some things i've gotten for her. lots of cuteness.

30 for 30.

:: click image to see larger ::

if you're looking for something to do while stuck in all the ice, click over to what mom wore to check out the first few days of my 30 for 30 remix. i'm four days in and learning quite a bit. even if you don't dig the posting of daily photos for the world to see, i suggest you take on kendi's challenge to gain a new perspective on your closet.

thrifted treasure.

one of my most favorite things to do is thrift. i love finding good quality items with lots of life left in them at great prices. as an added bonus, we are wearing/decorating with/using things that not everyone else is wearing/decorating with/using. i dig the uniqueness. i'm thinking of starting a little series on my blog about my finds since i get such a kick out of scoring them. also, landon and i had a multi-hour-long budget conversation yesterday where we set some pretty ambitious financial goals. these goals are are likely going to limit me to thrifting for my shopping thrill for the next several months. sounds like a double challenge!

first up...

...this sweet little green lands' end dress.
i found it at salvation army for $1.49.
it soft, thick cotton that feels high quality and looks adorable.

the jean jacket is mossimo from target.
i bought it at once upon a child in plano for $2 (i think).
i typically don't buy brands like target, walmart, or even old navy at thrift/second-hand stores because they are fairly cheap to start with.
but this was a great price on a super cute, super versatile jacket.

her tights and boots are not thrifted, but they were bought on sale at target (98 cents) and old navy ($8), respectively. (yes, we are posing on the potty. what can i say? that bathroom has good light.)

oh! how'd that get in there? he's not wearing anything thrifted today. but he sure is cute!

big.

ellie has been quite persnickety about her hair and clothes and shoes lately. battles over what she thinks looks good and what mommy thinks looks good have been occurring more and more. it is challenging my controlling self quite a bit, and, to be honest, i have been allowing myself the last word most of the time so far. lucky for me, she gets over it quick.

just now, she came to me in an outfit she pulled out of her closet on her own. i ooh'd and ahh'd over it, and she was so proud. she really didn't do half bad. i should probably give in to her more often. she is, afterall, nearly FOUR years old.

when i said, "oh, ellie! what a good job! how did you learn how to put together such cute outfits?!" she said, "well. that's just how Jesus made me!"

so big. and so right.

which hat?

we're currently debating which one of these winter hats to keep for gray.

option 1: this one is more "big boy" - from the toddler section. snowboarder-esque. it is also bigger in size. it will last to next winter. it also comes with mittens, as you can see.

option 2: this one is suede-y and very soft and sweet. it's a little dressier and looks a bit like a helmet to me. it's from the baby section. it is quite snug, and will not last until next year. and, sadly, it does not come with mittens.

price, his perfectly irresistible chubby-cheeked grin and generation of static electricity is the same for either.

please don't tell me to keep both. i am struggling with that as it is.

a dillard's steal.

we went shopping with friends yesterday, and, to be expected, i came away with a few good deals. i think the best one of the day was this sweet flowered, polka-dotted halter dress for ellie from dillard's. check out that price tag! it's a 4t, and, though it seems like a small 4t, is a bit too big for her right now. it'll fit next summer. or be a little baggy when i put it on her sooner because i can't wait that long.
