doing nothing: not only better, but necessary.

i get on to myself a lot for not doing more housework since i am a stay-at-home mom and all. it seems like i ought to be able to get something done besides watching children.

today, i don't really have a choice. i'm having a get-together at my house tonight, and it needs cleaning. so i'm cleaning. ellie is wandering around. and is apparently in mortal danger if i'm not watching her constantly.

so far today she has:

  • sat on my open dishwasher and pulled it out of the wall.
  • poked herself with a nail i didn't know was sticking out of the garage door.
  • stuck her finger in a candle flame.
  • carried a bottle of kitchen cleaner around for five minutes before i noticed.
  • nearly walked off the back steps unattended.
  • climbed the step stool angela gave her, threatening to jump off and break something.
  • got her finger smashed in a cabinet - twice.

I understand same here. But my little one walked out the front door and followed her sister to the mail box. The mailbox is on the curb by the road where my youngest was I couldn't get out there fast enough if you have seen my front yard. Luckily I have good neighbors and a not busy street!!! Praise the Lord!!

do you have a way to corral her in one area, like the living room, with a video, lots of toys, and a snack? you're going to go crazy if you have to watch her every moment.

i loved our last house - as long as the bathrooms were closed, the kids could roam free without doing much harm. i don't have that luxury anymore. =(

Poor Ellie. I would have watched her for you today if I didn't have school.

I remember my nephew's first few birthdays something was said about "He's Still Alive" and we marvelled that it was so. It's scary when they get a little more independence from learning to walk how much trouble they can get into.
