Making house a home: an old sewing desk.

It is slow going around here, people. On so many fronts. I have much (MUCH) to record and remember about our first month in this place we now call home. There are so many side stories that go along with coming to buy this house, and how obvious the hand of God has been in it all. And photos? Oh, my. There are so many. Like. Woah.

But I can't wrap my mind around all of that right now. I will take a tiny bite only, and show you what I worked on today. I managed to finally get all of the bookshelf boxes unpacked (but not arranged, obv), and I dragged this old sewing machine desk in from the garage. I hadn't figured out a place to put this beauty, which came to me from my mom by way of my gramma, until I suddenly thought to put it in the living room.

Currently empty, my plans for the living room are to make it a more formal (whatever that means) space to host guests. I'm imagining it as sort of my own space to go crazy with all my weird, mish-mashed, granny-crazy things. Until today, a desk was not a part of that plan. It still makes no sense in my head, but I rather love it.

*I'm linking to Simple Design's Share-Your-Thrift-Haul post today. I realize I didn't personally buy this from a thrift shop, but my gramma got it from a friend and then gave it to my mom who took out the sewing machine and gave it to me. I think 60-year-old hand-me-downs still stay with the spirit of thrifting...right?

P.S. That chair was my gramma's, too. I think it was originally out of an old funeral home. Creepy!

P.P.S. I totally bought that bag at a thrift shop! See! I knew this post worked. :)
